Six new homes have been given the go-ahead near RAF Marham, despite claims from locals they were no needed.

West Norfolk council has agreed plans to build six four-bedroom houses on land north-east of Lion Farm House, on The Street in Marham village.

It comes despite objections from Marham Parish Council, which said: "The proposed development is on a very small plot and comprises six detached houses with garages. The council feels this would represent overdevelopment, out of keeping with the surrounding houses."

The council adds facilities in the village are "poor" and those on the nearby RAF base are not available to residents.

There were seven other objections from villagers on grounds including lack of demand for housing in the village after the sale of 160 former RAF properties, which made up the base's former married quarters.

But in a planning statement, PiP architects said: "The proposed scheme is designed to respect the local character of Marham.

"The scheme presents the opportunity to provide a high-quality development with much-needed homes."
