Enjoy pints and a piece of history thanks to a new addition at a pub in the birthplace of Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson.

Nelson's map room has been opened by The Lord Nelson pub in Burnham Thorpe in the neighbouring building, which was a post office years ago.

There is free entry into the immersive space, which features voiceovers, information on the walls and a traditional Norfolk map on the floor with ships to find.

The pub and neighbouring building were taken on by the Holkham Estate in 2019, reopening in 2021, and the map room project was funded by the National Museum of the Royal Navy.

There are plenty of nods to Nelson in Burnham Thorpe and All Saints Church, where his father Edmund was rector, has the flags flown by HMS Indomitable at the Battle of Jutland, and by HMS Nelson, in the nave and the tombs of his parents are in the Chancel.

Jessika Cross, pub manager, said: "People love the map room and it has also encouraged them to come into the pub and asks lots of questions about Nelson."

The pub and map room are open from midday Wednesday to Sunday.
