A pair of shoplifters have been given jail time after they stole four gift sets worth a total of £52.50 from a Boots store.

Tanya Momot, 30, and Scott Mcspadden, 39, entered the store in Horsefair Shopping Centre in Wisbech at about 11am on Monday, February 13.

They headed straight to the gift sets aisle and picked up three Ted Baker sets and one Soap and Glory set, worth a total of £52.50.

They walked straight out of the store without paying, with the whole incident taking less than one minute.

The incident was captured on CCTV in the store, which was handed over to police who identified both suspects.

On March 31, Momot and Mcspadden, both of Lynn Road, Wisbech, were arrested.

Momot carried out the theft while under a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning her from entering the Wisbech shopping centre and all shops in its vicinity.

The arrest also activated a suspended sentence handed to her on January 21 for six counts of theft from a shop and a breach of a CBO.

Momot pleaded guilty to breaching a CBO, breaching a suspended sentence and theft from a shop. Mcspadden pleaded guilty to theft from a shop.

They both appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 3 where Momot was sentenced to 28 weeks in prison and Mcspadden eight weeks in prison.

PC Jake Smith said: “Shoplifting can have a huge impact on both businesses and those who work for them. It often comes together with other crimes including criminal damage and violence.

“Momot and Mcspadden showed a complete disregard for the law and will now spend time in prison where they will hopefully reflect on their actions.”
