The abundance of wildlife in Norfolk will be showcased on an episode of David Attenborough's Wild Isles tonight.

Following a trip to Snettisham in episode four, on Sunday the BBC series will explore Blakeney Point and its huge grey seal population.

The programme will visit the thousand-strong colony as they congregate on the shoreline to give birth.

Once the newly born pups are weaned, the females are ready to breed again, and heavyweight males enter violent, bloody fights to win a stretch of beach, and the females along with it.

The show follows the last episode's visit to west Norfolk, in which hundreds of thousands of overwintering wading birds made awe-inspiring displays over the vast mudflats in what is known as the Snettisham Spectacular.

Speaking about the show, Sir David Attenborough said: "If there is one thing I regret, and to be honest there isn’t a lot, it would be that I spent so much time doing overseas natural history.”

The programme airs on BBC One at 7pm on Sunday, April 9 and will be available on BBC iPlayer.
