Scammers have made a fake Harvester restaurant page on Facebook advertising free meals in a suspected data-mining ploy.

Norfolk Trading Standards has issued a warning to the public urging people to avoid being caught out by the scam.

The Facebook page states that everyone who comments and shares will be entitled to a free breakfast, lunch or dinner.

However, there is no free meal on offer.

The page is not genuinely run by the nationwide restaurant chain and it has instead been set up by scammers for 'like-farming' which uses your interaction to steal personal data.

The page offering free meals was created in October 2022 whereas the Harvester official page was created in April 2010.

Norfolk Trading Standards said in a post on Facebook: "When interacting on social media, don’t just look at the competition post. Look at the page history, and the other posts on the page. Does it look genuine?"

Fake Facebook pages can be reported directly via the social media platform.
