A main road through a coastal town has closed as work gets under way to maintain its flood defences.

The Quay in Wells-next-the-Sea will be shut until 11am for the Environment Agency to carry out essential maintenance and training at the town's floodgate.

The road will be closed with no access between Freeman Street and The Quay.

Traffic will be able to access Beach Road via Freeman Street.



The flood wall gate protects 600 homes from the risk of flooding.
