Roadworks which will see part of the A11 close for nearly three weeks are due to begin tonight.

National Highways will be carrying out urgent repair work on the Hethersett Bypass between Wymondham and Cringleford.

The northbound carriageway will be closed from 8pm to 6am until March 21.

Traffic will be diverted along the A1066 at Thetford, before travelling on the A140, up to the A47.

At the A47 junction, traffic will join the A47 westbound to Thickthorn interchange.

The southbound carriageway will be closed from 8pm on Sunday, March 19, until 6am on Monday, March 20.

There will then be weeknight closures of the southbound carriageway from March 22 until March 31 from 8pm to 6am.

Southbound traffic will be diverted along the A47 before joining the A140. Traffic will then join the A1066 to travel towards Thetford, before re-joining the A11.

Additionally, work to begin laying the new asphalt road surface as part of the A11 road reconstruction will begin on March 14. 

There will be no change for drivers as this begins.
