A pilot from RAF Marham who ejected from a fighter jet that rolled off an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean has spoken about his near-death experience.
Speaking to the BBC, the pilot, known as Hux, described the moment he was forced to bail out of the out-of-control aircraft.
"I tried for emergency power - that didn't work, then I tried to slap on the brakes - that didn't work either… so I kind of knew it was going to roll off the ship."
A screenshot from the programme shows Hux with cuts and bruises across his neck caused by the high-speed ejection.
Chris Terrill, who filmed the documentary, said the F-35 crash was "a shock to everyone".
The F-35 aircraft, worth £100m, was later recovered from the sea bed and an official investigation concluded the sudden loss of power on take-off was likely caused by a cover being left on one of the aircraft's jet intakes.
The incident will be featured in an upcoming episode of The Warship: Tour of Duty, due to air this Sunday (February 26) at 9pm.
