New plans have been revealed to turn the upper floors of a former department store into flats.

Debenhams closed its branch on the High Street in King's Lynn in 2020.

The former store, near the Saturday Market Place, has stood empty since then despite being offered for rent.

Now developer Starlow Investments has applied for planning permission for four two-bed flats and one four-bed property on the first and second floors.

Plans submitted to West Norfolk council show the ground floor would remain a retail unit.

Similar proposals were put forward last year, but withdrawn last month following discussions with council planning officers.

In a design statement with the latest application, Starlow says new openings and windows would be created on the Union Lane side of the building, along with a new entrance lobby and staircase.

It adds: "It preserves and enhances the conservation area by bringing new character to Union Lane and maintaining the existing features and details on the High Street."

A decision from West Norfolk council is expected later this year.
