A man has been fined after admitting assaulting a McDonald's worker twice in the space of a month.

Simon Adams, 41, slapped a cup of water out of a restaurant worker's hand and lurched towards him as if to punch him, Suffolk Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday.

On two occasions, he was shouting and making threats in the McDonald's in Thetford, both involving the same employee.

On the first occasion, the worker challenged Mr Adams on the state of the toilets he had just left.

Mr Adams became angry, knocked the cup of water out of the victim's hand, and went on to punch towards him as he went to pick up the cup, although he did not make contact.

Returning to the same restaurant a few weeks later, he was asked to leave because of the previous incident, and started shouting and swearing aggressively.

Mr Adams made threats to punch the same worker in front of children in the restaurant, and called him a "pr**k" among other things, according to prosecutor Lesla Small.

It was said he also punched a self service kiosk and was still swearing when the police arrived.

Among items being thrown, Mr Adams admits throwing coins.

Defending him, Natasha Nair told the court that he made "no physical contact" with the worker.

Mr Adams could have dealt with matters in a "slightly more sensible way" but the actions appear to have been "spur of the moment" rather than pre-planned, she argued.

The incidents took place on January 3 and January 30 this year.

Mr Adams also pleaded guilty to criminal damage, after throwing a bin at Mildenhall bus station on December 16, 2021.

He was seen tossing the bin after pacing around the bus station talking to himself.

Mr Adams said he had become angry at something an unknown woman had said to him, taking his anger out on the bin.

Appearing in the court, the 41-year-old, of no fixed abode in the Mildenhall area, pleaded guilty to two common assault charges, as well as threatening behaviour, and criminal damage.

He was ordered to pay a total of £740 in fines for all four offences.
