Plans for a campsite with lodges and shepherd's huts have been given the go-ahead despite objections from villagers.

Stanton Farms applied to change the use of a three-acre paddock at Snettisham Park to provide 40 pitches, including 12 with electric hook-up for motorhomes, six lodges and six huts.

In a planning statement, it said: "The site is currently part of a working farm, which has, over the past 28 years been providing farming experiences for families.

"It is thought the proposed accommodation will benefit Snettisham Park and other local businesses by bringing more tourists to the area.

"The proposal shall maintain close links with the existing open farm to ensure all campers make the most of their stay and get to experience life on the farm."

Fifteen objections were received from people living around the site, who feared the development would cause traffic issues.

One said: "There are serious concerns regarding the access to this proposed campground site as the roads on all approaches are narrow and wholly unsuitable for large recreational vehicles, camper vans and caravans."

Another added: "The village centre is like Piccadilly Circus nowadays with hardly any parking and with the extra caravans and motor homes trying to park, I think it's a no-brainer to add to the chaos."

But a planning officer's report said: "While these comments are noted, the use of Bircham road has not drawn objection from the local highway authority on safety grounds."

It added research concluded the site would generate 83 vehicle movements a day during the week and 108 per day at the weekend.

It said: "In order to reduce the instances of vehicles meeting in opposing directions on the local road network the applicant has put forward that the campsite shall operate an arrival and departure time structure, where departures must be before 10am and arrivals must be after 3pm."

The campsite was given the go-ahead by planning officers under delegated powers.
