A former Norwich City player has been named the new director of football at Sheringham FC.

Cedric Anselin, who has been involved with the Shannocks for years as a player and coach, will be working with the coaching team as the club seeks success in 2023.

Anselin said: “First and foremost, I would like to thank Kristian Gleave, Sheringham Football Club chairman, for the opportunity.

"My role will be to work closely with Kristian and Matt Halliday the first team manager, to ensure that the philosophy, vision, success and high standards that we have implemented for the past four years continue.

"Looking at the long-term football strategy, the aim and priority will be to restructure the club from the bottom to the top.

"I will be looking to create a relationship with all the coaches and managers at the football club, and support them to implement the vision, philosophy and principles of play.”

Anselin has played for clubs in Europe, South America and the UK.

He played for Norwich as a midfielder and made 29 appearances for the Canaries between 1998 and 2000, scoring one goal.

Anselin had originally joined the club on a loan.

He has had management experience with Norwich United and guided that team to second place in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division in 2020, before the season was curtailed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Anselin was capped by France at under 21 level, won the French league in 1999 with Girondins de Bordeaux, and played in a Uefa Cup final alongside Zinedine Zidane.

He is currently lead coach at Open Academy in Norwich, where he is guiding 16-to-18-year-olds through their Btec level three sports and fitness course, in partnership with Sheringham FC.

He is also part of the commentary team on BBC Radio Norfolk.

The club is aiming to consolidate its position at Step 5, and build a solid foundation for the future.
