One of north Norfolk’s sporting legends was the special guest at the opening of a new convenience store in Stalham.
Tom Youngs, who played rugby union for Leicester Tigers and England, was on hand at the launch of the Nisa Local branch in the town’s High Street.
The shop is owned and operated by James Cawdron and is next door to Cawdrons Butchers, which his family also runs.
Mr Cawdron, 50, said of the new shop: “It’s going to be open seven days a week - normally from 7.30am through to 8.30pm at night.
“We will eventually be doing local produce as well, so we’re looking to source local suppliers.”
The Nisa store unit used to be occupied by the Stalham Shopper, which closed around a year ago.
Mr Cawdron’s dad, Rowland, moved to Stalham in 1971 and took over the butchers from Mr Butler.
James later took over from Rowland, who died in 1999, and his mum Susanna, wife Kerry and daughter Anya all work for the business.
Mr Cawdron said he wanted to thank Jim Gaughan from Nisa, as well as Secker and Sons, Monk Services, CJ Randall and David Pears, all of whom worked on the refurbishment of the shop.
