Arctic winds are to bring widespread sub-zero temperatures to Norfolk next week.

Mercury levels are predicted to plummet to -4C in some parts of the county, with the coldest periods to hit overnight.

This will be the first time this winter that the county will see widespread freezing conditions and frost, according to forecaster James Lester, of Weatherquest.

He said: "Later next week, cold winds from the Arctic are expected to bring colder than average temperatures across the region.

"Overnight will be the coldest, with lows of -2C across the county but some exposed places could drop to -4C.

"We have not seen widespread frost yet this winter and there is a potential for wintry showers in some parts of the country.

"But this is likely over higher ground so will be unlikely to reach Norfolk but this could change."
