The new landlords of a Norfolk village watering hole have revealed their plans to restore the country pub to its former glory.

The Garden House, in Banham, has been taken over by Stuart and Lyndsey Kendall, who have promised to roll back the years and make the pub the "place to be" once again.

Mr Kendall, 39, who lives in Attleborough, said he was "delighted" to take on the pub but was well aware of the size of the job ahead.

"It's been a challenge but I'm so glad we've finally got the keys," he said. "This place deserves to go back to its heyday because in previous years it used to be the place to be.

"We want to make the pub our own and help it get back there."

Eastern Daily Press:

Mr Kendall, who owns his own plumbing firm, has already spent £35,000 on upgrading the pub - with plans to spend a further £30,000.

He said: "We're under no illusions over what needs to be done.

"On Monday, there was a team of 10 in there and all we did was clean the furniture and the floor.

"The brewery is also coming in to change the lines, pumps and equipment before we reopen on Saturday."

Mr Kendall plans for The Garden House to be an even split between being a traditional pub and a restaurant and aims to offer a carvery in the new year.

He also hopes to introduce themed nights and wants to welcome musicians to the pub.

The father-of-five said he hopes the renovation will help bring "the community back together".

"The feel of the place is going to be the same but I just want to upgrade things that will make all the difference," he added.

"I've got five children so I know how expensive it is to go out.

"We aren't going to skimp on quality - I just want to make it affordable for families."

The pub is set to reopen on Saturday (December 3) until New Year's Eve when it will close for a three-week refurb.

Customers will be able to order food from February onwards.
