A woman in her 50s is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a motorcyclist in Norwich.

The collision involving a blue Yamaha 125 and a pedestrian happened in Colman Road at 7.20am on Thursday, November 17.

Emergency services attended and the road was closed for nearly seven hours.

The pedestrian, a woman in her 50s, was taken by ambulance to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

She was transferred by land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge where her condition remains serious.

The motorcyclist suffered minor injuries.

The road reopened at around 2pm.

Those living and working in the area shared their shock following the collision.

One person who lives on Colman Road, who did not wish to be named, said: "I got up at 6am to let the dogs out and I've never seen rain like it.

"If it was raining like that when the accident happened - it's very sad.

"I've lived here for 50 years and I've seen lots of bad accidents. It's terrible."

Sandra Morgan is the supervisor at the Beehive Childcare Group at Kinchen Hall in Colman Road.

She said: "Several parents initially thought it was an accident involving a lorry, but lorries pulled across the road to stop traffic passing through.

"They did that to block the road before the emergency services arrived.

"You don't hear of many accidents down here. There was one a few years ago but it generally feels safe down here."

Arborists working on a property near the site of the collision added: "It was quite shocking coming to work and seeing the emergency services and police tape, especially when you don't fully know what's going on.

"You don't really expect something like this."

Officers are keen to speak to any witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage of the motorcyclist’s manner of driving before the collision.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation can contact Wymondham police station on 101 quoting CAD 57 of 17 November.
