Plans for a shepherd hut-style holiday home in the Norfolk countryside have been approved, despite officials saying the scheme should be turned down.
South Norfolk Council (SNC) has approved plans for the holiday let at Thurlings Farmhouse, just north of Starston.
Ahead of Wednesday’s meeting officers recommended the plans for refusal, arguing the site was too remote and that visitors would rely too heavily on needing a car.
But local councillors came out in support of the scheme.
Karen O’Keeffe, from Starston Parish Council, said: "On the issue of reliance on a car, this application is for a transportable, one-bedroom holiday let. I think to argue, with respect, that any impact on traffic is significant is a bit of an exaggeration.”
Martin Wilby, the county councillor covering Starston, also argued in support of the plans, saying the scheme would bring tourists to the area.
Councillors unanimously rejected the official recommendation and supported the plan.
