A "heartwarming service" attracted a good turnout as people fell silent in paying their respects to those who have lost their lives in battle.

Around 50 people gathered around the War Memorial outside All Saints' & St Margaret's Church in Pakefield on Friday, November 11 to mark Armistice Day.

Further services were also held across Lowestoft on the anniversary of the end of the First World War, with two-minute silences observed at 11am to remember those who have died in military conflicts.

One of those attending the Armistice Day service at Pakefield - which was led by Rev Becki Bensusan, curate at Pakefield Church - said it was "a heartwarming service."

There was also the chance to observe an amazing display of poppies, which was unveiled to adorn the Pakefield war memorial ahead of Remembrance events.

Having been created by the Pakefield Beach Belles Women’s Institute group, Sallie Halle said: "This was my idea during lockdown and it has finally come to fruition."

With the group, who meet in Pakefield Church and Community Hall, having knitted and crocheted more than 1,000 poppies - it led to "a big display on the Pakefield War Memorial."

This will be displayed this weekend, as Pakefield Parish Church holds a Remembrance Parade Service in church at 10.30am this Sunday, November 13, followed by the laying of wreaths at the memorial.

On November 11, Lowestoft Town Council held three ceremonies across town - as people gathered to pay their respects on Armistice Day at the

War Memorial on Royal Plain, Lowestoft Cemetery and at the Pte David Parr Memorial in Belle Vue Park.

The annual parade and service to mark Remembrance Sunday will return to Lowestoft war memorial this Sunday.

People across the east coast will pay tribute on November 13 as Lowestoft Town Council organises the annual Remembrance Parade and Service at the War Memorial on Royal Plain, starting shortly before 11am, this Sunday.
