It's been the much-loved stop-off point for travelling Norwich City fans for donkey's years.

Now the famous A17 farm shop, where generations of Canaries have tucked into a fry-up and a cuppa on the long haul to away games up north is set for the final whistle.

Nestling in the Lincolnshire fens between Long Sutton and Holbeach, 15 miles north of King's Lynn, the landmark Hurnfield Hargate Farm Shop and Café is to close on Christmas Eve.

The four-acre road-side site with its farm shop, cafe and lorry park has been put up for sale for just a fraction of what a decent striker costs.

Lynn-based agents Cruso and Wilkin are marketing the property for £1.2m.

"The Vendors have been operating on the site for over 50 years, starting by selling fruit and vegetables from an outlet on the side of the highway and expanding to include a café and truck stop over many years," they say.

"In the past there has been a bar with live music although the business now concentrates on the café, retail and farm shop enterprises."

Cruso add the site has scope for expansion. They go on: "The property enjoys substantial parking areas, adjoining the main road frontage and to the rear of the site.

"An area is currently used as an overnight lorry park but is also suited to alternative uses.

"There is a separate building historically used by the owners as a museum but suitable to alternative business uses."

A staff member today confirmed that the much-loved institution, which also houses a flower market and a collection of vintage tractors would be closing on December 24.

For years, official Norwich City supporters' coaches pulled in there. While they have now stopped doing so, many fans making their own way to games have continued to call in at the farm shop.

With no away games taking the City faithful north of Lynn between now and Christmas Eve, the yellow and green army may miss out on the chance of a final full English at the site.
