Christmas shoppers will be able to take advantage of free festive parking this winter.

East Suffolk Council is offering free parking in their car parks in towns across the district to coincide with Christmas light switch-ons and other festive events set to take place.

The change will take place in certain towns on selected dates after 4pm, as well as from noon until 6pm on Saturday, December 17 across east Suffolk.

Councillor Norman Brooks, cabinet member for transport said: "We are pleased to be again offering free parking at council-owned car parks during the festive period, as part of a special programme agreed with the respective town councils across East Suffolk."

Bungay will be the first town to benefit from the free festive parking on Friday, November 18.

Halesworth will follow the next day, Saturday, November 19, while the scheme will be offered in Beccles on Friday, November 25.

The final date this month will take place in Southwold on November  26.

Elsewhere in Waveney, free parking will be offered after 4pm on Saturday, December 3, in Lowestoft, and Friday, December 16 in Oulton Broad.

Other dates include Framlingham and Saxmundham on December 2, Aldeburgh, Felixestowe and Wickham Market on December 3, Woodbridge on December 4 and Leiston on December 10.
