FIRE crews had to cut the roof and doors off a car in March today to free a driver trapped following a collision in St Peter's Road.
No other vehicle is thought to have been involved when the driver of a black Ford Fiesta suddenly swerved and careered into the rear of a parked car, an older style Fiesta.
An eye witness described the accident as 'a complete mystery.
'I was coming in the opposite direction when all of a sudden the car just seemed to lose control and the next thing I knew it had hit the parked car'.
The accident happened shortly after noon and two fire crews and paramedics were quickly on the scene.
Rescue workers freed the driver and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Diversions were put into affect whilst the driver was freed from the wreckage of his car.
The eye witness said road conditions were fine although there had been some rain earlier.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said they were called just after 11.30am following reports of a car hitting a stationary vehicle.
They said a man, who complained of chest pains, was taken by ambulance to Peterborough City Hospital 'as a precaution'. He was not thought to be in a serious condition.
