A stone's throw from Norwich on the River Yare, the 280-acre Whitlingham Country Park has matured from gravel workings into a wonderful retreat for the city dweller or broads visitor.
Known as the gateway to the Broads, and twice winner of the Green Flag Award, Whitlingham is a great place to experience a taste of what the Broads has to offer.
Its many pathways through ancient woodland and around two Broads packed with wildlife offer tranquil walks and cycle routes. For the younger visitor there are a low ropes course and an adventure play boat in one of the meadows.
For those who want to get on the water, the Broads Authority's solar boat Ra gives trips round the Great Broad from April until October. Fitted with a ramp, it can take visitors in wheelchairs.
The Great Broad is the perfect place to learn to sail, windsurf and canoe safely. Norfolk County Council's award-winning Outdoor Education Centre offers a comprehensive programme of water and land-based activities, including archery and climbing as well as adventure weeks.
The Broads Authority's flagship visitor centre is in the 200-year old flint barn which is open all year round. Here you will be able to find out about the Broads wildlife via stunning images on a giant touch screen or watch a rolling video of the Broads while knowledgeable and friendly staff are on hand to answer your questions.
A new café in the barn, with views of the Great Broad, provides a meeting place and welcome post-activity refreshment.
