The Tough Love singer was in the city as part of the BBC Radio 1 Academy, a week-long series of workshops and Q&As ahead of the Big Weekend at Earlham Park on May 23 and 24.

After performing at Open, in Bank Plain, on Fearne Cotton's mid-morning show, Ware led a Q&A with Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac, where she was quizzed on her experiences.

Speaking before her session, the London-based star said: 'I have been in the position where I have asked advice and I think this is a completely indulgent job sometimes, and to be able to be involved with something generous and help other people is great.'

Ware, a former journalist at the Jewish Chronicle, recalled her spell of work experience at the Daily Mirror when she was 16.

She added: 'You have got to not expect it to be all roses. You have to work hard and be realistic. It's hard work but it is fun.'

She recently got married to her childhood sweetheart, and said the Radio 1 Academy was a great way for young people to meet rising and established artists.

In a Q&A style interview with Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac, Ware offered her top tips to making it in the music business, saying: 'Firstly, be nice to people.

'It may be going really well and you think you don't need them, but it can all come crashing down. Karma comes back around.

'Be nice and appreciate the people around you.'

Ware's 2014 single, Say You Love Me, was written with Suffolk-raised singer Ed Sheeran, and featured in the top 40.

At yesterday's event Ware said: 'It's also really important to collaborate. Collaborate with everyone – work with people outside your comfort zone. I learnt so much from my small session with Ed Sheeran. It was amazing.

'Finally, know who you are – don't be scared to say no to things if they don't feel comfortable. Do things with conviction and be true to yourself.'

And during her quick visit to Norwich, the singer said she was eager to try a milkshake from Norwich restaurant The Waffle House.
