Work is underway to move a group of travellers on from a car park at Whitlingham Country Park.

The encampment of caravans and cars appeared at the second pay and display car park off Whitlingham Lane, just before the main visitor centre, this week.

A Norfolk police spokesman confirmed that the force had received 'several' calls about the group and officers were liaising with other authorities about the situation.

The land is owned by the Crown Point Estate, and is leased to Whitlingham Charitable Trust, which manages the site.

A spokesman for Whitlingham Charitable Trust said: 'The situation regarding a small number of travellers at Whitlingham Country Park is in hand and we are working jointly with the authorities to enable the community to move on quickly and peacefully.'

A Norfolk County Council spokesman said: 'We're working with partners – other agencies including the police and Broads Authority - according to the Norfolk protocol for unauthorised encampments.'

Neither the visitor centre nor Whitlingham Outdoor Education Centre have reported any problems with parking as a result of the group.
