A Norfolk MEP has donated a prize won by her pet to 'less fortunate cats in Dereham'.
Alex Mayer entered her cat, named Kat, into the EU Top Cat Awards.
He received a special commendation and won a selection of cat toys, which will be donated by Ms Mayer to Dereham Cats Protection.
Ms Mayer will visit the centre on Friday December 8 to hand over the gifts and meet staff and volunteers.
She will discuss the issue of abandoned pets in the run up to the Christmas season.
Cats Protection warn that families should carefully consider before getting a cat, as it could be a commitment for up to 20 years. The charity rehomes or reunites 47,000 cats and kittens every year.
Ms Mayer, who is part of the European Parliamentary all party group on Animal Welfare, said: 'I'm proud of Kat and delighted to be able to bring his prizes to such a deserving cause.
'Cats Protection is doing a wonderful job finding new homes for cats and kittens.'
