Local people congregated on London Road South for an afternoon of festivities which included live music, a fun fair and a number of food and drink stalls.

There were performances from Group A and singer-songwriter Breeze Redwine, before Mark Read from boyband A1 took to the stage. He was joined by popular funnyman Terry Gleed as the pair look ahead to a run of performances in this year's Marina Theatre pantomime, Aladdin.

The East Anglia Transport Museum brought along a Santa Bus, whilst visitors also took advantage of the numerous rides scattered along London Road South.

At 5pm the lights were switched on and the town centre was illuminated as Christmas songs echoed through the street.

'The switching on of Christmas lights always puts people in a good mood,' said Mark Read.

'Kids love it and it means that Christmas time has officially begun.'
