It is not every day you walk down Southwold promenade and spot a large digger seemingly taking lumps out of the beach.
But that was the sight for many on Monday, May 14, as workers from Coastal Partnership East, which helps district councils manage their coastline, took to the beach to raise the level of the sand.
A tweet from Coastal Partnership East said: 'A snapshot of the works being carried out at Southwold beach today to move material which will help reduce heights from the prom.'
A spokesman from Waveney District Council said: 'We continuously monitor beach levels next to the promenades along the coast and at Southwold, a few areas of the beach had become quite low.
'In order to reduce the risk of injury in the event of a fall from the promenade, we are carrying out some minor work to restore beach levels.
'Some larger beach debris, washed up in recent storms, has also been removed as part of these works.'
