Since its creation the council has not had their own office space, having to rely on room bookings at the East Coast Community Healthcare-run building on Battery Green Road and at Waveney District Council's offices at Riverside.

However, work started earlier this year on the first floor of the building to turn it into a permanent home for the council.

Included in the layout is a large meeting room which will be able to be booked by community groups at a low cost, a clerk's office, another meeting room, a reception area, and a café/open space looking out towards the north sea.

The town council said the space is due to be ready for use for council business by July 4, with the first major event, the 40th anniversary of the Lowestoft and Plaisir Twinning Association on July 9.
