More than 20 girlguides gathered last week to help clean up a Wymondham woodland.
Members of the 4th Wymondham Guides descended on Ketts Park Woodland Walk on Wednesday from their half-term camp armed with litter-pickers, plastic sacks and safety knives.
Their challenge was to remove litter from the site and to take off the outgrown plastic guards from the now well-established trees. The work was undertaken with advice from Ann Roberts, chairman of Wymondham Wildlife Group and tree warden for Wymondham parish, and guide leader Fran Young supervised the girls. Fran said: 'This is the community action part of the guides' challenge badge.
'Last year we did work for projects overseas. 'This year we decided to concentrate on helping our own town.' Ann Roberts thanked the girls and said: 'The woodland would look much better for their efforts.
'Although conditions were quite wet and muddy underfoot, the guides rose to their challenge magnificently.'
The woodland walk is part of Ketts Park and is owned by Wymondham Town Council.
As well as hundreds of trees it also has orchids and many other wild flowers in the spring and summer.
