Fakenham's scheduled National Hunt meeting on Sunday has been called off due to a frozen track following an early Friday morning inspection.
Officials at the North Norfolk circuit made the decision with frost remaining in the sections of the track not covered by snow.
'The temperatures were above freezing on Thursday, but none of the snow has shifted at all,' said clerk of the course, David Hunter. 'There's also the prospect of sheet ice to contend with, which, as everyone knows, can be lethal. We do not have the confidence the snow will shift in time so we are not going to be racing. There's still two or three inches of snow on the track. You can hardly see any green.'
Fakenham's next scheduled meeting is their prestigious New Year's Day event. First race 12.40pm. Anyone who had purchased tickets in advance for this weekend's meeting will be able to use those on New Year's Day.
