Every inch of Emmas Way in Little Plumstead was covered with tables and chairs as 150 neighbours and their friends and family celebrated the Royal Wedding.

As Prince William and his new bride went off for a private celebration, the champagne flowed and the Norfolk street filled with the smell of barbeque in the small village near Norwich.

Kate Dixon, Gail Palmer and Paul Bassham were among a small committee which organised the event.

Miss Dixon said the idea for the party had started off at a Christmas drinks party.

'The committee were out at 8am this morning setting up the party before they went inside to watch the wedding'. she said.

'Several people said they didn't want to come because they didn't know anyone, but we said we didn't know anyone either.'

Miss Palmer said that she thought it was great that they had people of all ages from children who had started school right up to older couples.

Annie and Duncan Edrich who live on the street will be celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary this year and were made the guests of honour of the party.

A giant game of human bingo was organised to help break to ice and get people to talk to each other.

Miss Dixon said that everybody had really got involved with the party.

'We have had as much fun planning the street party in our meetings. It is lovely.'

All the children on the street were given a commemorative mug to ensure they remember the day for years to come.

As the light fades this evening, the tables and chairs will be cleared away and there will be dancing in the streets.

Each neighbour had to pay 2 each towards the party and the remaining money will be donated to their neighbour Emma Wicks who is running the Race for Life.

Jamila Kuziw, 16, from Sprowston was helping her aunt Miss Dixon and that she especially enjoyed seeing Prince Harry at the wedding.

She said: 'I loved the wedding. Kate's dress was really really pretty.'
