FIELD archers in Worlingham have made a renewed plea for someone with spare woodland to come forward and give them a new home after being evicted from woodlands they have used for more than 30 years.

The club made a heartfelt plea in February for a new woodland base for its 24 members, ideally between 15 and 30 acres.

Although people came forward for various reasons the sites fell through.

Worlingham Field Archers were asked to leave the woodland site in Marsh Lane, Worlingham, by the end of December after receiving a letter from the landowner.

Club member Christine Smith said: 'We are really looking for somewhere long-term and the majority of it would really need to be woodland with reasonable access.

'We are looking for somewhere we can use any time and within a 20-mile radius of Beccles.'

She said that one man had come forward in Broome, but the club had thought that they had another options so she shredded his number and asked for him to contact the club again.

'We are still looking for anybody that has woodland that they would be willing to let us use.'

'It was very good last time we asked because we had support.'

Worlingham Field Archers is a mixed club of all ages and if the club can secure a new ground they are hoping to encourage more local people to join them.

Mrs Smith said the club would be willing to pay up to 500 per annum for a suitable site and would take excellent care of the woodland

The club is affiliated to the English Field Archery Association.

It has a marked course of various distances set out throughout woodland in much the same way a golf course is set.

Each archer, normally in a group of four, shoots four arrows at the target from a marked peg.

Once the group has shot their arrows they move forward to their score card before progressing to the next target.

There are several national shoots held throughout the country each year.

Worlingham Field Archers have members who are currently national trophy holders in some of these competitions.

There are other archery clubs in Norfolk and Suffolk and four clubs have a designated Sunday and visiting archers from around the region attend other clubs for shoots so club members have continued to shoot.
