A bomb disposal unit was called out after a hand grenade was discovered at a scrap yard in Lenwade, near Felthorpe.
The World War Two hand grenade was discovered at about 1.30pm today at the premises in Norwich Road, Lenwade prompting the army to send a bomb disposal team from Colchester.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the hand grenade was found not contain an explosive but was taken away to be disposed of.
A spokesman for Norfolk police confirmed the bomb disposal unit was called to the scene with the device being removed by 4.30pm but added there was never any danger to members of the public.
