The carnival fever did not end when the last of the floats left the city centre, with all sorts of weird and wonderful events keeping the Lord Mayor's Celebration party going into the evening.

The Street Mayhem! Parade started shortly after the traditional procession drew to an end and featured a host of street entertainment.

Close to Debenhams, in Brigg Street, people were able to make requests of The Human Dukesbox, with an entire band crammed into a jukebox the size of a wardrobe.

The audience got to pick from all sorts of songs, ranging from jazz to techno and bluegrass, which were then performed by the dukes in the box.

In Rampant Horse Street and outside City Hall, people marvelled at Granny Turismo - hip hop routines on shopping trolleys courtesy of Doris, Mary and Marge.

The 'pensioners' had the audience in hysterics as they zoomed about on their souped-up trolleys and were spotted later racing each other around Norwich Market.

And patrolling the city centre were The Wardens, a law-onto-themselves double-act empowered with the jurisdiction to enforce any rule or law they see fit, including punishing people for breathing too loudly and being in possession of an offensive child.

Also wandering around the city were the strange little creatures Hodman and Sally, who stopped to share surreal chats with children and adults alike.

Rachel Ingleby, from Eaton, was at the Street Mayhem fun with her husband Paul and daughters Ruby, three, and Ella, five.

They enjoyed an encounter with Hodman and Sally, and Mrs Ingleby said: 'It's been really good. We've been coming for the last few years and there seems to be a lot more going on this year in between the procession and the fireworks.'

Other youngsters enjoyed having a go at hula hooping outside The Forum, while the 1950s-style Digital Paparazzi were prowling around taking people's pictures.

Close the the Theate Royal, Dragon Heart Beats had people dancing around to drums emanating from the guts of a huge mechanical dragon.

And there were even more gigantic mechanical creatures making their mysterious way down Gentleman's Walk.

The massive machines, including a hen which belched fire and an enormous green and blue turtle, were part of the Fair and Fowl Finale.

The show was created in collaboration with Emergency Exit Arts and Tin House duo Tim Tracey and Ali MacKenzie and saw the creatures in search of a giant lost egg.
