He is one of Australia's most loved artists and entertainers and this weekend Rolf Harris is heading to Norwich to officially open one of the city's newest galleries.

Rolf will be at the Artique Gallery in the Royal Arcade on Saturday, and on the day people will also be able to see about 10 of his latest original paintings.

Maria Crutchley, manager of the gallery which opened in May, said Rolf's visit was organised after she met him at an art fair and asked if he would attend the gallery's official opening.

She said: 'It is very, very exciting. It is a massive coup for the gallery and for Norwich. More than 500 people have already confirmed they will be coming to the event which is wonderful.

'It is also nice for the rest of the Royal Arcade too. We all try to support each other and hopefully this will be a real boost for the Royal Arcade.'

The selection of Rolf's original paintings will be on display for one day only, but the Artique Gallery already has a number of signed limited edition prints of Rolf's work on display including images of wildlife and cityscapes.

Mrs Crutchley said the prints were already attracting a lot of interest.

Among his many accomplishments in the art and entertainment world, Rolf's BBC television series Rolf on Art achieved the highest television ratings ever for a UK arts programme and in a live BBC special he joined the public in recreating a large-scale version of Constable's The Hay Wain in Trafalgar Square. He has also presented Rolf's Cartoon Club and Animal Hospital. Rolf, who was made a CBE for his work in the entertainment industry, was also commissioned by the BBC to paint a portrait of the Queen for her 80th birthday.
