He is the man with the questions as the quizmaster of BBC show QI, and tonight some Norwich pub-goers are hoping actor Stephen Fry will be the man with the answers as he joins them for a quiz in a city pub.

Mr Fry, right, is appearing on The One Show tonight and during the show will be taking part via video link in a quiz night run by the Norwich Wine Festival at the Garden House in Pembroke Road.

James Linder, who runs the Garden House, was contacted by The One Show about Mr Fry taking part in the quiz on Tuesday.

'They said Stephen was voted the number one celebrity who people would like to see on a pub quiz team and asked if he could take part in the quiz,' he said.

'Stephen is going to be helping one of the teams and The One Show is going to link to us about three times during the show. It is fantastic news. It has created quite a buzz in the pub.'

The quiz is taking place in the Garden House's upstairs function room. About 60 people are taking part and it was sold out last week before it was announced Mr Fry would be taking part via videolink. The quiz was due to start after The One Show airs and so the organisers have created an extra quiz for the show.

Emily Barclay, from Norwich Wine Festival, has come up with the 15 questions which are divided into three categories – language, literature and wine.

She said: 'It's brilliant Stephen Fry is going to be taking part in the quiz although it was a bit daunting coming up with the questions.

'I have got one or two questions that I think will be quite tricky but we will see how he gets on. It is impossible to know what someone else's knowledge is!' she said.

Her partner Steve Hunter and three friends will be part of Mr Fry's team.

He said: 'It's quite exciting – and maybe we stand a chance of actually winning for once! We are really looking forward to the quiz and it should be good fun for all the teams taking part.'

The One Show tonight starts at 7pm on BBC One.
