More tributes have been paid to the 25-year-old trainee teacher who collapsed and died while taking part in the Norwich half-marathon on Sunday.

Phillip Goillau, from Dereham, was training to be an IT teacher at Notre Dame High School in Norwich and students lit candles in the chapel in his memory on Monday.

The family said in a joint statement: 'You were the greatest son and brother we could have wished for. Your enthusiasm, compassion and irrepressible spirit rubbed off on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting you. No one paragraph will ever do you justice. Sleep tight.'

Girlfriend Gina Steggall added: 'I can't believe you left me behind on this next adventure of yours. I do not know what I am going to do without you. I love you with all my heart and will do forever. Be in peace my angel. I will see you there.'

The family also thanked people for their messages of condolence and praised the ambulance crews and staff at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Although Mr Goillau was not running the half-marathon for charity, he and fellow runner Mike Newham were in preparation to complete 12 marathons in 12 months in order to raise money for a 'sunshine' bus on behalf of their university friend Jack Stovold, who died in a car accident a couple of years ago.

The just giving website they set up is www.justgiving.com/Variety-Club-Marathons-Challenge and Mr Newham now intends to complete the marathons for both of them.

Next year Mr Goillau also planned to swim the channel, complete an 'Iron Man' triathlon and travel to South and Central America with his girlfriend, his family said.
