FIREFIGHTERS rescued an elderly resident from an early-morning flat fire at a sheltered housing complex in Oulton.
A woman has been taken to hospital suffering from burns after the blaze at Oulton Court, near Lowestoft.
Crews responded to an automatic fire alarm at 1.45am this morning (Monday).
A spokesman for the Suffolk Fire and Rescue service said: 'At 1.45am one fire appliance was mobilised from Lowestoft South fire station to reports of an automatic fire alarm at Oulton Court in Lowestoft. Crews arrived to find this was a confirmed fire in a ground floor flat with persons reported and a further two fire appliances were mobilised from Lowestoft South and Lowestoft North fire stations.
'Crews quickly rescued one elderly casualty who was suffering from burns and extinguished the fire. All persons are now accounted for.'
The scene was cleared by 2.36am, and a spokesman for he East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) said: 'We were alerted to Oulton Court at 1.59am. A rapid response car, an ambulance an a officer were dispatched to the scene.
Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson added: 'On arrival a woman had been rescued by the fire service and following assessments by paramedics, she was taken to the James Paget University Hospital (in Gorleston) for further care.'
