A Cromer teenager who entered a beauty pageant 'for fun' has gone on to be crowned the winner.

Roxy Osborne scooped the coveted title of Miss Universe Norfolk after wowing a panel of judges with her bubbly personality and catwalk skills.

The aerobics and fitness instructor pipped 19 other hopefuls to the post at yesterday's closely fought final, with just two points separating her from the second placed beauty.

Miss Osborne, who works at Cromer's Fighting Fit Gym and Splash leisure centre in Sheringham, said she was 'genuinely shocked' to be crowned Miss Norfolk.

'I was scared backstage but I just enjoyed it and that's the most you can do really,' she added. 'If you just show your personality that's all you have got to do. It's about empowering women and putting yourself across and I feel absolutely amazing.'

The former Cromer High School student was cheered by friends and family as she showed off her modelling skills during the casual, swimwear and evening gown rounds.

Her mum Dawn, 41, added: 'Roxy said all the way through she's met some lovely people and she's just gone for the experience and not to win it - I can't believe it. I have another dress to buy!'

The 18-year-old will now go on to represent Norfolk at Miss Universe GB in May - which could lead to a place in Miss Universe, the international contest organised by American business mogul Donald Trump.

She will be joined by fellow Norfolk finalists Rhiannon Chandler-Day, who won the people's choice placement after receiving the most public votes, and Rachel Davis, who was named Miss Charity for her work to raise funds for the Hemraj Goyle Foundation - the pageant's chosen charity.

? An organiser is needed to stage this year's Miss Norwich contest. Miss England bosses have said the city's regional event will not take place unless an organiser can be found.
