A campaigner who fought against plans to use a Norfolk town's recreation land for an Asda supermarket is set to stand as a council candidate.
Andy Gardiner, who recently resigned as chairman of action group Wymondham Asks Why (WAW), will be standing in the Rustens ward by-election in May following the resignation of Yvette Astley.
The WAW group had fought a long campaign to protect council-owned Kings Head Meadow, home to Wymondham Town FC and children's play facilities, from development and had called for the town council to hold a public consultation.
In February, the town council agreed to rescind a proposal to sell the land at a heated public meeting at Ketts Park Community Recreation Centre.
Mr Gardiner pledged to have more public debate, adding: 'I do think the town council needs livening up for want of a better description. I think there should be open debate when the public is there. I basically want to open up the council to the people of Wymondham.'
