A waitress from Cromer is taking on an inspiring challenge which will see her climb a total of 17,373ft (5,295m) - almost half of Mount Everest - to help support Britain's wounded troops.

In four months time Danielle Holford, will be scaling the five highest peaks in the British Isles to raise money for charity, Help for Heroes.

The 24-year-old, who works at Huckleberries coffee shop in Cromer and Whelks Coppers tearooms in Sheringham, will have to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Snowdon in Wales, Scarfell Pike in Cumbria, Carrantuohill in County Kerry and Slieve Donard in Northern Ireland, in just 55 hours.

She will be undertaking the challenge with her brother Kane Holford, 27, who is an officer in 454 Commando Royal Marines.

She said: 'I hear about people who get injured and think 'that could have been my brother' - there could be another sister out there, like me, it is happening to.

'This is a charity I really wanted to help.'

The challenge takes place between July 4 and 8 and the route crosses four national borders and the Irish Sea.

Supported by mountain leaders, logisticians and caterers, Miss Holford will be conveyed between the peaks by a professional driving team.

The pair will sleep where they can along the route.

'We hope to raise more than 1,300,' she added.

'This is the fifth year of Help for Heroes, and we've set ourselves our own Olympic challenge. It's going to be tough, but we're determined, and I think we will actually enjoy it too.'

Miss Holford is a keen sportswoman and is preparing for the expedition by running from her home in Cromer to her work in Sheringham. She also keeps fit by swimming and is training to be a lifeguard.

Mackinnon Construction in Cromer has already donated 500 to kick-start the duo's fundraising efforts and Miss Holford hopes more businesses will come forward to help.

She also plans to hold a raffle, an Easter egg hunt and a quiz night to raise funds.
