Keen walkers are encouraged to follow in the footsteps of Norwich City legend Darren Huckerby and help raise money for charity.

The former Canaries winger is championing this year's Bure Valley Railway Walk in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and will complete the nine-mile route when the event takes place on April 21 and 22. Shorter routes of three and six miles between Aylsham and Wroxham will also run over the weekend.

All the walks will incorporate a train ride on one of the Bure Valley's steam engines, so strollers can enjoy some of the scenery while having a deserved sit down.

Hucks said: 'This is something that anyone can do and I would like to encourage as many people as possible to get involved.

'I'm doing it on the Saturday and will definitely be doing the full nine miles.'

'I'm all about anything that goes towards good causes. And Norfolk is very important to me and if it helps one person or 10 people in Norfolk that's what it's all about.'

The event has raised more than 40,000 since it started several years ago and regularly attracts hundreds of walkers.

Each route costs either 10 or 15 per person to take part in but walkers are encouraged to raise as much as possible for Macmillan through sponsorship or organising their own additional events.

And those not so keen on taking a stroll can also get involved as the charity is looking for volunteers to help marshall and run the weekend activities. If you can lend your time over the weekend call fundraising manager Paul Fleet on 07779286650.
