A Dereham firm has been praised for its support of a charity which helps save lives by transporting blood to hospitals.

Westcotec, based on the Rash's Green Industrial Estate, makes flashing warning signs for motorists and has donated hundreds of pounds to the Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers (SERV) Norfolk blood bike charity.

The organisation, which was formed in February last year, has about 80 volunteers who take blood, plasma and platelets to hospitals in the region on a motorbike.

There are two motorbikes, which are used regularly used, and a reserve bike.

David Parish, SERV Norfolk's county secretary, said: 'Back then we had virtually nothing except a good idea and a lot of enthusiasm, so it was tremendous news when Westcotec agreed to support us. It was a real leap of faith and we're very grateful.' Westcotec managing director Phil Hayton said: 'It's really pleasing and quite amazing to see how far they've (SERV Norfolk) progressed in the last year.

'Everyone at Westcotec wishes them continuing success for the future; they are doing a great job.'

The firm continues to support the charity and one of its staff, Tim James, is a SERV volunteer.
