A Norwich garage has been presented with a courtesy award after it was nominated by a satisfied customer.

Auto Devotion in Hall Road impressed Joyce Sherry, from Poringland, so much that she nominated it for an award from the national campaign for courtesy, which she is a member of.

The campaign was launched in 1986 and is a not-for-profit organisation that stands for good manners, respect for self and others and courtesy for all. Peter Cresswell, the campaign's regional executive, travelled to Norwich to present the certificate, and Miss Sherry, 76, said: 'I have been to loads of garages in my time as a driver. As a single woman I have always felt that I have been ripped off, so it was nice to find a garage which was honest and polite, and so thrilled that my bill was just �200, when I thought it would be �400.'

Lawrence Nichols, service advisor at Auto Devotion, said: 'It's quite a pleasant thing to get as, very often, people are keen to criticise. If you treat people as you want to be treated, hopefully you win a few.'

The campaign has a network of volunteer regional representatives who work to grow numbers, recognise exceptional examples of politeness through presenting certificates and awards, and produce a regular magazine for members.
