Plans for new traveller homes on a Norfolk village site have been given the go-ahead despite concerns plans to move the entrance would increase the risk of road accidents.
South Norfolk Council's planning committee approved Luke and Ben Todd's application for two traveller pitches on land opposite Blyth Green Cottage in Stratton Road, Tharston at a meeting on Wednesday.
The council received seven objection letters from residents citing concerns about plans to create an entrance to the site on a bend at the Wacton end of the road and cut the hedge surrounding the land to one metre which they said would encourage motorists to drive more quickly.
Wacton parish councillor Vera Cruickshank said her council did not have any problems with the applicants, but was solely concerned about problems that could be created by moving the entrance.
She said: 'The hedge has a dual purpose of not only creating a screen to the field, but also of slowing down the traffic. By having the hedgerow cut down to one metre in height, there will be a significant impact in making people speed even more.' The traveller pitches will have two mobile homes, two day room buildings, two stables and two touring caravans.
