He has been at the heart of Norfolk life as a mardler and scribe for 50 years, and now Keith Skipper is looking to celebrate the milestone with some of the ingredients that have kept him going for so long.

The Eastern Daily Press writer and former BBC Radio Norfolk broadcaster aims to combine easy laughter, good local company and an excellent cause in a special show at the Pavilion Theatre at Cromer Pier this autumn.

For one night only, BBC Radio Norfolk's panel game Should the Team Think? will be revived to celebrate half a century of Mr Skipper's Norfolk squit and wit.

The show, at 7.30pm on Thursday, October 11, will be raising funds for the EDP We Care Appeal.

The Rt Rev Graham James, bishop of Norwich, has agreed to partner Mr Skipper on the panel, while television personality Carol Bundock and all-round entertainer Olly Day make up the friendly opposition.

Mr Skipper, 68, said he was thrilled when he heard the bishop would be taking part.

'He has made such a bold mark in Norfolk as a highly-accessible man of the Church. A keen sense of humour and deep affection for the county have shone through his ministry.

'We have warned him there'll be no texting during the show while the true Norfolk gospel must take precedence in any deliberations.'

David Clayton, editor of BBC Radio Norfolk who will chair the panel show, said: 'The listeners love it because it's a good laugh and we need a few of them.'

Paddy Seligman, chairman of the Norfolk Millennium Trust for Carers which runs the EDP We Care Appeal, explained that the income from the appeal's capital investments was given out in grants to unpaid carers in Norfolk who were in need of support.

'We need to increase our capital fund to yield more income, thus a fundraising event such as this is vital for our growth.

'These talented and tireless people have freely given up their precious time to help us. I am confident that the evening will be a huge success so book your tickets without delay.

'It will be a night out to remember and my fellow trustees are enormously grateful to the Skip Ahoy team, and so are the carers we are able to help.'

Tickets are 12.50 and on sale at Cromer Pier box office in person, by telephone on 01263 512495 and online at www.cromer-pier.com
