City gymnasts have created their own special Olympic performance for when the torch arrives in Norwich this evening.

Members of the Chermond School of Gymnastics will create a human pyramid as the torchbearer carries the Olympic Flame along Theatre Street on its way to the celebration site in Chapelfield Gardens.

They will also perform up to three routines in Theatre Plain, celebrating the occasion.

More than 30 youngsters, aged from six to 20-plus, from the Delta Close-based club will be involved in the performance.

Cherie Alcock, who runs Chermond Gymnastics, said: 'The children are extremely excited, I can't put it into words. We are planning to make a human pyramid and to hold flags from different nations up and the Olympic Torch will go under it.

'It's a wonderful thing to celebrate something like this and to be part of the Olympic Games. When we were approached, we grabbed the opportunity with both hands.'
