With as much as 8cms of snow predicted for Norfolk this afternoon, here are some tips on how to survive the cold snap
Keeping warm:
Draw your curtains at dusk and keep your doors closed to block out draughts.
Have regular hot drinks and eat at least one hot meal a day if possible.
Wear several light layers of warm clothes, rather than one chunky layer.
Keep as active in your home as possible.
Keep your main living room at around 18-21°C (65-70°F), and the rest of the house at least 16°C (61°F).
Staying safe:
Icy pavements and roads can be very slippery. Take extra care if you go out and wear boots or shoes with good grip on the soles.
Put grit or cat litter on paths and driveways to lessen the risk of slipping.
Don't drive unless necessary. Slow down on the roads, and take care around gritters. It can take 10 times longer to stop in icy conditions, so allow room. Use the highest gear possible and minimise braking.
Watch your health:
Check up on friends, relatives and neighbours who may be more vulnerable to cold weather.
