A square tango and the Palais Glide were among dances chosen to celebrate a popular event's 10th anniversary this week.

Over the past decade monthly winter and spring tea dances have been held at North Walsham Community Centre, attracting fans from surrounding villages and as far afield as Bury St Edmunds.

For just £2 visitors have been able to enjoy an afternoon of tea, homemade cakes and dancing to the music of Denis Payne and Barrie Eke, also known as the Den-Barrie Duo.

The musicians, their wives and other helpers all give their time for free and profits are given to worthy local causes.

Monday's 66th dance attracted 60 people and raised £130 which will be donated to the Grace Matthews Trust Fund.

Grace, who is nearly six, from Mile Cross, Norwich, had to have both legs, her left-hand fingers and half the palm of her right hand amputated after contracting meningitis.

The latest donation brings the charity total raised by the dances to £8,734. Other causes supported over the years have included the Louise Willgrass Tsunami Fund, Ryan Wright Appeal, Big C, Nelson's Journey, The East Anglian Children's Hospices, and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

The next tea dance will be held in the New Road community centre on April 8 from 2pm-4.30pm.
