There was a win for the 'home team' when Wroxham Barns hosted a pro-am tournament as a curtain raiser for a major mini golf tournament.

The barns' own All Stars team beat six others - each with a professional in their midst - to take the title, and help raise £450 for the Macmillan Cancer Support Trust.

The winners' pro was James Rutherford from Cambridge Mini Golf Club who made it a double success by going on to win the main competition and become British Champion, after seven rounds over the weekend.

It was his second title win in three years and saw him set a new course record of 27 in round four.

After collecting his trophy and gold medal he said: 'The course at Wroxham Barns is one of my favourites in the country and I was delighted to secure my second major there.

'I went into the last round with a commanding lead and I managed to turn what should have been a relaxing 18 holes into quite a nail biting finish, but this is only testament to the players that I was playing against and their determination to never give up.'

The pack he headed off was second place Adam Kelly, and Michael Smith, third, both from Kent.

The British Senior title was won by Sean Homer making his debut in the class), while Adam Kelly made his own piece of BMGA history by winning the junior title for the fourth year in a row.

BMGA Chairman Sean Homer said 'We always have a tremendous event when we visit Wroxham and this year's event was no exception. It is amazing to see how much our players have improved over the past few years. When Wroxham hosted the British Championships in 2010 we saw some superb scores and it's worth noting that the top 4 players this year all finished with a better average than the winner that year. James' new course record was a highlight of the event and he is a worthy champion once again.'

Champions James and Sean are now preparing to represent Great Britain at the WMF Nations Cup in Germany this weekend. The next event on the BMGA tour is the World Adventure Golf Masters at the Pirate Minigolf Course in Hastings on June 15-16.
